About Allison
As a graduate of the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute), my Master's degree is from the first accredited Acupuncture school in the US. As an undergraduate, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a Minor in Women's Studies from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I am an active member of the American Association of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine and the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association.
My initial foray into the field of holistic medicine was motivated by my futile attempts to alleviate pain with western medicine. After years of enduring neck pain due to herniated discs, I eventually tried acupuncture as a 'last resort'. Needles were a huge fear of mine and I was reluctant to try such a therapy that preceded my phobia and intuition. However, after just one treatment, I was amazed at how effective acupuncture was in alleviating my symptoms. Not only did I experience pain relief, but also elevated mood and an increased ability to handle life's challenges and demands. After regular treatments, stress grew manageable and I felt capable to excel in areas I struggled with before. Part of what drew me to acupuncture was seeing the ability this medicine has to promote self-healing.
As an avid athlete, I specialize in Sports Medicine Acupuncture. I hope to not only provide symptom relief and promote healing capacity, but also help people realize the efficacy this medicine has in preventing illness. Through acupuncture, bodywork and cultivating lifestyle change, your body can function as a well-oiled machine. A well-oiled machine is a happy machine. I am also certified in Battlefield Acupuncture, a protocol that implements semi-permanent needles (for 3-5 days) to alleviate pain quickly with a prolonged effect. As the specialty is named, it can be used in the field when it is impractical to use western pain medication. It may also be used in a clinic environment and to promote enhanced athletic performance.
I am also certified as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist, which equips me to treat symptoms of addiction (cravings and withdrawal), specifically with alcohol dependency, substance abuse, smoking and overeating. I achieved Thai Massage certification from the Thai Institute of Healing Arts in Arlington, Virginia. I have also completed coursework in Chinese Herbs and certification in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. It is my hope that people can look good and feel good. Everyone says that pain is part of life. I believe that we are equally entitled the chance to thrive.
